6 Celebrity Scandals That Sparked Divorce

Divorce is a ridiculously common thing in Hollywood. Sometimes celebrities get divorced for really dumb reasons, but there are a few instances where their decision to pull the plug on the relationship is totally justified. Here are 6 celebrity scandals that sparked divorce:

6. Brandi Glanville Eddie Cibrian

When Star magazine released images of LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian (who were both married at the time) back in 2009, a scandal was born. Although both Rimes and Cibrian initially tried to save their marriages, they just couldn’t quit each other, which is why Brandi Glanville left Cibrian and then filed for divorce. It wasn’t long after this that Rimes divorced her husband Dean Sheremet after eight years of marriage so that she could finally be with Cibrian.

5. Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren

Tiger Woods was on top of the world before his cheating scandal made headlines in late 2009. He had spent his entire life cultivating this image as the world’s greatest golfer and the perfect family man, but it was all lost when over a dozen women came forward alleging that they had been carrying on affairs with him, including the couple’s 15-year-old neighbor. He lost millions of endorsements and then entered rehab for sex addiction. At first people weren’t sure if his wife Elin Nordegren was going to weather the storm with him, but then in April 2010 she finally filed for divorce.

4. Jesse James and Sandra Bullock

Jesse James became one of the most hated men in American when news broke that he cheated on his lovely wife Sandra Bullock and then blamed his actions on “poor judgment.” Multiple women came forward alleging that they had affairs with James while he was married to Bullock. Even though James entered rehab for sex addiction, it wasn’t enough to save the marriage. She filed for divorce a couple of months after the scandal broke and finalized her son Louis’ adoption without him.

3. Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom

Considering that Khloe Kardashian only knew Lamar Odom for a month before she married him, it shouldn’t be too surprising that the marriage ended in divorce. What most weren’t expecting, however, were the mistresses who came forward; for Odom to get a DUI; for drug allegations to come out; and for Odom to enter rehab only to leave after a few days. There was a point in 2013, before Kardashian finally filed for divorce where she didn’t even know where he was. When she finally filed for divorce in December 2013, many people were relieved. Kardashian had finally had enough and was taking a stand, but it still took a few more years for her to actually divorce him.

2. Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore

No one really expected Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore’s marriage to last, but what we didn’t expect was for the actor to cheat on his wife of six years so openly. When news broke in 2011 that Kutcher had cheated on Moore with some party girl in Vegas, who sold her story to Us Weekly, Kutcher didn’t have much of a defense. It took a couple of months, but Moore ended up splitting with the Two and a Half Men star stating, “As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life.”

1. Liberty Ross and Rupert Sanders

After paparazzi caught Rupert Sanders and the star of his film Snow White and the Huntsman in a series of steamy encounters during an afternoon in 2012, both of them tried to salvage their relationship with their significant others. While Stewart and Robert Pattinson were able to reconcile for several months after the scandal, it took Sanders’ wife Liberty Ross another six months to file for divorce from her cheating hubby. When reflecting back on the scandal, she told Vanity Fair, “It was horrible. It was really the worst, really the worst. I have no words to describe what we went through. But I think, for me, something always has to completely die for there to be a rebirth. And, for me, I feel like I’m going through a rebirth.”
