Celebrity Co-Stars Who Couldn’t Stand Each Other

In the real world, most people don’t always get along with their coworkers – the same is true in Hollywood. Actors and actresses can sometimes really clash on set, which makes it uncomfortable for everyone else. Sometimes they end up working through their differences but, other times, neither side can get past the negativity. We decided to make a list of co-stars who just didn’t get along while they were working together. Some of these people will probably hate each other for the rest of their lives; however, many of them have already moved past it. Here are some co-stars who couldn’t stand each other:

16. Teri Hatcher and the Cast of Desperate Housewives

There have been rumors that Teri Hatcher did not get along with her castmates from “Desperate Housewives” floating around for years. Back in 2005, these rumors were substantiated during a disastrous cover shoot for Vanity Fair. ABC reportedly stipulated to Vanity Fair that Hatcher not be allowed to “steal the shoot.” This meant that she was not to get first shot at wardrobe or be posed in the center of the group. There was no stopping her though. She arrived early and hit the wardrobe first and then proceeded to act like a diva all day, storming off-set when Marcia Cross was in the center of one of the shots.

Years later, when the show was wrapping, tensions between Hatcher and the rest of the crew were still present. When the rest of the cast bought the crew a thank you gift, they left her out because none of them got along with her. Ouch!

15. Will Smith and Janet Hubert

The feud between Will Smith and Janet Hubert on the set of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actually went under the radar for decades before a recent feud between the pair brought it all back up again. Many even forget that Hubert’s Vivian Banks was replaced after season three with Daphne Maxwell Reid, and for a long time no one knew that Smith had anything do with it.

According to Hubert, Smith used his power as the star of the show to get her fired after they continued to disagree on set. “I think he was young and he was inexperienced and I think he simply had to win. And sometimes when you get caught up in a lie and I went back to them in 2009 and I said, ‘Please, I need you to clear my name,” she said about Smith’s role in her leaving the show.

14. Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling

Even though they had great on-screen chemistry in “Notebook,” Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams did not get along. According to the director of the film Nick Cassavetes, Gosling had asked him to replace McAdams. “Maybe I’m not supposed to tell this story, but they were really not getting along one day on set. Really not,” Cassavetes told VH1. “Ryan came to me, and there’s 150 people standing in this big scene, and he says, ‘Nick come here.’ And he’s doing a scene with Rachel and he says, ‘Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off camera with me?’ I said, ‘What?’ Then he says, ‘I can’t. I can’t do it with her. I’m just not getting anything from this.’”

They then went into a room with a producer and had it out. There was screaming and yelling and then everything cooled down. They still continued to fight on set; however, Cassavetes thinks that Gosling developed more respect for McAdams when she stood up for her character.

13. Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer

It took three years, but in 2015, after starring in 2012’s smash hit Magic Mike alongside Channing Tatum and not being a part of the sequel, Alex Pettyfer revealed that he and Tatum had some issues. “It’s true,” Pettyfer said of their bad relationship on set. “Because Channing Tatum does not like me – and for many reasons [and] many being my own fault.” Pettyfer added that his attitude on set was considered negative but insisted he was actually “nervous” however things got worse between the two when Pettyfer failed to pay rent to one of Tatum’s friends where he was staying while filming.

By the time reshoots happened, Tatum was telling everyone that he didn’t like Pettyfer and “what Channing says goes because he’s a movie star.” Despite the bad relationship with Tatum, Pettyfer added he credited the entire experience to helping him mature and said, “It was an incredible experience making Magic Mike. I wouldn’t replace it for anything.”

12. Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey

As Johnny Castle and Frances “Baby” Houseman, Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey are one of the most iconic film duos of all time, but behind the cameras things weren’t so sweet. Before filming on Dirty Dancing even began, Grey reportedly had an issue with the casting of Swayze as her lead co-star because of pre-existing issues the two had from when they had difficulty getting along on the set of Red Dawn. Despite Grey’s objections, their on-screen chemistry proved to be too incredible to pass up, and the pair had to work together.

In his own memoir, “Time of My Life” even Swayze commented on their relationship on set, revealing he found her emotions difficult to deal with sometimes. “We did have a few moments of friction when we were tired or after a long day of shooting. [Grey] seemed particularly emotional, sometimes bursting into tears if someone criticized her,” he wrote. “Other times, she slipped into silly moods, forcing us to do scenes over and over again when she’d start laughing.”

11. Shenae Grimes and AnnaLynne McCord

Some on-set feuds between costars are kept quiet or even go under the radar completely, but the differences between 90210 costars Shenae Grimes and AnnaLynne McCord was widely reported. The two women who played rivals Annie Wilson and Naomi Clark had issues during the entire five years of filming according to McCord. “Shenae and I, who played Annie, we were at each other’s throats for five years and the day before we wrapped, Shenae calls me and was like, Hey… I can’t believe it’s over.’ I’m like, ‘Bitch?!'” the actress recalled.

Despite being costars who couldn’t stand each other while filming, Grimes’ phone call worked and the two are now friends. “We hash it out the day before we wrap,” she added, “all five years, and I end up at her wedding in England and now were friends. We have dinner dates. It’s awesome, I love her.”

10. Freddie Prinze Jr. and Kiefer Sutherland

Freddie Prinze Jr. is probably one of the last celebrities you would expect to have an issue with anyone, or at the very least talk openly about it, but he had such a problem working with Kiefer Sutherland on 24 he couldn’t hide it. Prinze Jr. joined the series back in 2010 for one season and said he “hated every moment of it.” “Kiefer was the most unprofessional dude in the world. That’s not me talking trash. I’d say it to his face. I think everyone that’s worked with him has said that.”

If that wasn’t bad enough, the actor added that the experience working with Sutherland was so bad that he had to take another break for acting and considered quitting “the business” altogether.

9. Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall

Sarah Jessica Parker has always denied that there was any feud between her and Kim Cattrall. In an interview with Marie Claire back in 2010, she brushed off the idea that they don’t get along. “When you’re on set, you’re working 90-hour weeks, you’re never home, you’re exhausted,” she told the magazine. “There are times when all of us have been sensitive, and sometimes feelings get hurt. But I don’t have any regrets about how I’ve treated people.”

According to Cattrall, Parker was going to be paid more for the “Sex and the City” movies, which caused tension. “I thought the money was shite. I wasn’t set for life and I thought the three of us [the other actresses on the show, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis] should be. But it became just my fight. And that’s [Davis and Nixon’s] choice, I don’t have a problem with people deciding what’s right for them, but it wasn’t right for me and I don’t think that’s a crime, but it became a crime because everyone wanted their Sex And The City. But to me it was about standing up for something I really believe in,” she told The Guardian.

8. Lea Michele and Naya Rivera

From 2009 to 2015, Glee was one of the most popular high school series on television but it seems some of the high school drama was very real. Rumors of a feud between two of the show’s female stars Lea Michele and Naya Rivera flew for quite some time, but in 2016 Rivera confirmed that things weren’t great on set between the two in her revealing memoir.

“If I’d complained about anyone or anything, she’d assumed I was bitching about her,” Rivera wrote. “Soon, she started to ignore me, and eventually it got to the point where she didn’t say a word to me for all of Season 6. Lea and I definitely weren’t the best of friends, and I doubt we’ll ever sit on her couch and eat kale together again.” Rivera was sure to stress that the media did blow their feud “out of proportion” but it is clear that they were definitely far from friends.

7. Ashley Judd and Jason Patric

Back in 2005, Jason Patric worked with Ashley Judd on the Broadway revival of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.” While he was pretty excited about working on the play, he was less than impressed with his leading lady. In an interview with Vulture back in 2011, he dished some details about his experience with Judd and it was not flattering.

“I said I wasn’t coming back to Broadway unless I had more input and creative control. Look, you get to do Tennessee Williams on Broadway every twenty years of your life. And I loved playing the role and I loved the majority of my cast, but I had issues with the producers, I had issues with the director. I loved saying the words and working with most of the people every night. I didn’t like my leading lady. Ashley is just a lazy and arrogant actress. Let’s just leave it at that,” he said.

6. Charlie Sheen and Selma Blair

Charlie Sheen has difficulty getting along with most people. He was fired from “Two and a Half Men” for making derogatory comments about his boss, Chuck Lorre. Even though he has a track record of instability, he was given another sitcom, “Anger Management.” As per usual, Sheen ended up having a serious problem with one of his co-stars. Selma Blaire, who played his therapist on the show, eventually lost patience with the mercurial actor for his lack of professionalism on set. He then told producers that he would quit if they didn’t fire her. Later that same day, Lionsgate Entertainment issued a statement announcing that Blair would not be returning to the show.

According to TMZ, Blair in turn demanded $1.2 million in lost wages for being forced off the show and was prepared to file a retaliation lawsuit against Sheen and the production company Lionsgate. Sheen said that reason that Blair’ dismissal had nothing to do with any conflict between them and was because the audience found her character dull.

5. Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth

It is no secret that actress Shannen Doherty doesn’t have the greatest reputation when it comes to her on-set attitude, and there have been many rumors of conflicts between herself and costars. One of the most talked about is the feud between herself and Jennie Garth while filming Beverly Hills, 90210. “Brenda and Kelly began as best friends but turned into bitter rivals, and Shannen and I did, too, at least for a time while we were working together,” Garth said of the pair disliking each other on-set. Although they disliked each other as co-stars Garth added that as they got older they have become friends.

4. Vin Diesel and The Rock

2016 brought one of the most surprising costar feuds of all time when Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson posted a scathing rant on social media targeting some of his costars from Fast 8. In the rant, Johnson said that while his female co-stars are “always amazing,” he said some of his male co-stars are “candy a–es,” and there are some scenes where the anger his character Hobbs is portraying is very real. Before long it was revealed that The Rock was talking about the Fast and Furious franchise star Vin Diesel. “Vin and I had a few discussions, including an important face-to-face in my trailer,” Johnson said. “And what I came to realize is that we have a fundamental difference in philosophies on how we approach moviemaking and collaborating. It took me some time, but I’m grateful for that clarity. Whether we work together again or not.”

3. Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion

Given the on-screen chemistry between Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion as Kate Beckett and Richard Castle on ABC’s Castle fans were shocked when it was revealed that Katic would be leaving before the show’s ninth season. As soon as the report was released, it was revealed that there had been on-going tension between the two leads for quite some time. “Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion completely despise each other,” a source said. “They will not speak when they are off set, and this has been going on for seasons now.” The source added, “This season, it got so out of hand they made Stana and Nathan go to couples counseling together.”

2. Blake Lively and Leighton Meester

Blake Lively and Leighton Meester may have played best friends on the hit CW series “Gossip Girl,” but these two were reportedly anything but friends off set. According to the National Enquirer, these two didn’t get along because Meester was jealous of all of the recognition and fame that Lively was receiving. When the blond beauty’s publicist was asked about the reported feud, her comment did nothing to nullify the rumors: “Blake and Leighton have never been best friends and never professed to be. Blake goes to work, does her job, and goes home.”

Meester was the better actress on “Gossip Girl.” Her portrayal of Blaire Waldorf was infinitely more convincing than Lively’s wooden performance as Serena Van der Woodsen. In spite of this, Lively ended up being the show’s breakout star. These two are both total professionals though, as neither one of them has ever admitted to there being any truth to all of the rumors.

1. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson worked together on the hit television series “The X Files.” These two had great chemistry on-screen, which is funny because, according to Duchovny, they didn’t always get along that well. “Familiarity breeds contempt. It’s nothing to do with the other person. All that fades away and you’re just left with the appreciation and love for the people you’ve worked with for so long. We used to argue about nothing. We couldn’t stand the sight of each other,” he told Metro.

These two didn’t let their on-set feud ruin any potential that was there for an enduring friendship. During the same interview, Duchovny said that, even though they don’t see each other very often, Anderson is still like a sister to him. “It had been a number of years but when you spend that much time with someone it doesn’t feel like you’ve been apart. She’s like my sister,” he said.
