Jared Padalecki and Genevieve Cortese met back in 2008 when she took on a guest role as Ruby in season 4 of Supernatural. They enjoyed a whirlwind romance over the next year until they got engaged, and married a few months later. Now they’ve been married for over 10 years and have three children! These two have quickly become one of the cutest couples in Hollywood as fans swoon over their adorable family pictures. In celebration of their cute marriage, here’s a look at some things you probably didn’t know about their relationship!

7. How He Asked Her Out

Of course, Jared and Genevieve met on set, but how did he work up the courage to ask her out? “The story I tell amongst my friends is that she wouldn’t leave me alone, right? So finally I was like, ‘All right, yeah yeah, fine, I’ll go on a date with you, fine.’ But [in reality], she came on set and it was season 4, which was eight years ago. I thought she was cute and smart, and I remember she would always read books,” he said during an appearance on Live with Kelly. “But I kept on finding myself interrupting her. I’d be like, ‘So what’s your favorite Hemingway?’ [Then] I’d go in my trailer and look up Hemingway. I thought she was awesome and so I asked her out to lunch, and it turned into hanging out and talking and traveling, and it turned into dinner.”

6. How He Proposed

Jared proposed to Genevieve in October 2009 at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. He got down on one knee right in front of their favorite “Joan of Arc” painting by French realist Jules Bastien-Lepage. The private couple didn’t share their happy news until January 2010 and were married shortly after in February 2010 in Genevieve’s hometown, Sun Valley, Idaho. The wedding was mostly planned by her mother because Jared and Genevieve weren’t living in Idaho at the time!

5. Why it Works

Every Supernatural fan knows these two met on set when Genevieve guest-starred in the recurring role of a demon named Ruby back in 2008. When asked why their relationship works so well, Jared said it’s because he waited to get to know her before he finally asked her out. “I was very attracted to her, and as I got to know her, I was very excited to take her out to lunch. What made it work is that we got to know each other for about four months before we went on a date,” he said.

4. Three Children

They currently live in Austin, Texas with their three children, two boys, Shepherd, 3, and Thomas Colton, 5, and one girl, Odette Elliot, who was born on March 17, 2017. But they also have homes in Los Angeles and Vancouver where Supernatural is filmed.

3. Genevieve Was In Her Underwear When They First Met

During a Supernatural panel in 2012, Jared revealed he first met his future wife while she was in her underwear! “I was a single dude, and she was a pretty girl in her underwear on her first day on set. I was very excited to meet her. Meanwhile, I think she was like, ‘Who is this long-haired A-hole who thinks he can come talk to me while I’m reading a book?…’ I interrupted her while she was reading a book and I think she got kind of fussy about it,” he joked.

2. Focus on Family Time

Padalecki has held a starring role on Supernatural for the past 13 seasons, so he’s away from home a lot. “After Supernatural I hope to kind of back off from the business and work more sporadically and be a father and be a basketball coach for my kids, maybe get into producing or something,” said Padalecki at the CW TCA back in 2014. Right now, the show isn’t showing any signs of slowing down, so when Padalecki gets a break, he’s fiercely protective of his family time. “I am violently protective of my — I call it my off-time — when I’m not working. I’m straight home and whether they’re in Vancouver or they’re in Seattle or wherever we happen to be I’m straight to them,” he said.

1. Going From Two Kids to Three

Not only do these two have trouble scheduling a lot of family time, but they’ve got their hands full with three kids! Jared admits there was a bit of an adjustment period going from two kids to three. “Now we’re on zone defense instead of man-to-man, so one of us has to have the boys, and one of us gets to have the girl. It is certainly more difficult. And it’s important for us to make sure that our sons know that the addition of our daughter, their sister, is something only to be excited about,” he said.
