35. Imperial Polo Match at the Guards Polo Club in 1981

Lady Diana Spencer watched her fiancé, Prince Charles, at the Imperial Polo Match at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor in 1981. She looked so fresh-faced in her beautiful pink dress. Even before she was a royal, she was already making a statement with her fashion.

34. Tennis Tournament in 1988

Diana participated in a tennis tournament in October 1988 at the Vanderbilt Racquet Club to raise funds for Birthright. Tennis player Steffi Graf was also there. Even though Diana didn’t win, she still looked really cute in her tennis attire.

Princess Diana visited the Vatican with Prince Charles and met with Pope John Paul II during their tour of Italy in 1985. She looks like she’s in mourning with this lace black dress and lace veil, but she wasn’t the only person wearing all black for the meeting.

In 1978, Lady Diana Spencer was a bridesmaid at her sister Lady Jane’s wedding to Robert Fellowes. She wore this frumpy-looking bridesmaid dress, which is definitely not something the Diana that we remember would wear. Still, she looks really pretty!

Prior to her marriage to Prince Charles, Diana was a nursery teacher’s assistant at the Young England School in Pimlico. In this picture, she’s walking outside the nursery school while photographers try and get a shot of her. She seems to recognize that, as Charles’ girlfriend, the media is going to take a keen interest in her, but she doesn’t seem to be happy about it.

Princess Diana attended the opening of University College Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in 1982 in style. She looked lovely and sophisticated in this beautiful blue velvet dress, which she paired with a feathered hat.

The British royal family has always enjoyed taking their winter vacations at the resort of Klosters in Switzerland, and in 1968, Prince Charles took Princess Diana on a skiing trip there. She looks like a natural on skis and knows just how to dress for the slopes!

Back in the 1990s, Angola’s countryside was littered with millions of landmines after years of civil war, and Diana was one of the few people to bring awareness to this issue. After walking through the minefield, she visited a Red Cross center and spent time with victims of the civil war.
