Actor Charles Grodin has sadly passed at the age of 86.
The news of Grodin’s passing was first shared by reported by The New York Times. According to their reports, the actor passed on Tuesday at his home in Wilton, Connecticut. Grodin’s son Nicholas confirmed that the cause of passing was bone marrow cancer.
Grodin has had a long career in Hollywood and is known for both his leading and supporting roles. Some of the most acclaimed movies that he starred in include Catch-22, The Heartbreak Kid, Midnight Run, Beethoven, and more.
Grodin had his first big break in Hollywood in the role of Mia Farrow’s obstetrician Dr. C.C. Hill in the 1968 horror film Rosemary’s Baby. Soon after this film, Grodin played the leading role in the 1972 romantic comedy The Heartbreak Kid, which became one of his best-known roles and earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
Aside from acting, Grodin also tried roles in other areas of the entertainment industry including a stint on Broadway in 1962’s Tchin Tchin and a directing role in the 1968 play Lovers and Other Strangers.
He has also worked on the writing side of the industry and has penned several plays and books. In 1977, he won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special in 1978 for the Paul Simon Special.
In more recent years, fans will recognize Grodin for his recurring role as Carl Shapiro in ABC’s 2016 miniseries Madoff. Grodin’s final acting role was in 2017 in the film An Imperfect Murder.
