After years of playing a father-figure and dad on Full House and the spin-off Fuller House, John Stamos finally gets to do it for real!
On Wednesday, December 13, the 54-year-old actor revealed he and his fiancee Caitlin McHugh were expecting their first child and instantly the warm wishes from fans and Stamos’ fellow stars came pouring in.
While Stamos joked that all his TV practice will come in handy, telling PEOPLE, “I’ll be a fun dad. I’ve been practicing for a long time. I’ve done every schtick you can do with a baby on TV … all the bits and jokes and diaper gags. I’ll probably just do all that stuff,” his former on-screen agrees it probably will help.
Among the reactions from his co-stars, Stamos’ TV son Blake Tuomy-Wilhoit, who played Nicky Katsopolis on Full House from 192-1995 and reprised the role for two episode of Fuller House, said he knows Stamos will be a “great” dad.
“I recently heard the news about John and Caitlin’s baby on the way,” Tuomy-Wilhoit told E! News. “A huge congratulations! He is going to be a great father. I mean, look at me, I turned out great.”
As well as his TV son, Stamos’ longtime TV wife Lori Loughlin was more than excited to share her reaction to the news that her longtime co-star was finally going to be a dad in real life. “Phew, I’m so glad the happy news is out. I’m terrible at keeping secrets!” she told E! News after the news broke. “All kidding aside, John has waited a long time for this moment. He just needed the right woman to make his dreams come true and he’s found that in Caitlyn. She’s beautiful inside and out, and the two of them will make wonderful parents. Congrats!”
