Kate Middleton Congratulates New Parents Over Video Chat After The Birth Of Their Son

Press Association

Kate Middleton surprised some new parents through video chat!

The Duchess was introduced to newborn Max, alongside parents Rebecca and John, at Kingston hospital, which is just south of London. The hospital is close to Kate’s heart because she did some work shadowing there for two days last November.

“Very nice to meet you,” Kate began. “This is definitely a first. Well, firstly, huge congratulations. Is it a little boy or a little girl?” When told it was a boy, Kate said, “He’s so sweet. Congratulations!”

The new mom, Rebecca, opened up to PEOPLE about her experience chatting with the Duchess. She began, “Having a baby is an extraordinary experience at any time, but having one during lockdown and then having a surprise conversation with the Duchess of Cambridge after two hours sleep was particularly surreal!”

In the call, the Duchess asked about the experience of giving birth during this unique time and how the staff was able to support them. The Duchess praised the staff and their bravery to continue on during this time.
